Peace and Non Violence, Grassroots Democracy, I am a 52 year old father of two beautiful children, Clancy (20) & Nooroobunda (14). My darling partner of 22 years is Edwina Mullany and we have lived in Yeppoon for the past 15 years. I led a charmed life growing up in the ‘burbs in North Rocky in the 60’s, swimming in the creek, riding bikes for miles, and Xmas holidays at Cooee Bay. In my youth I worked as a fencer, ganger in the railways, picked fruit, worked in factories and lived on Fraser & Lady Elliot Islands as a reef tour guide and musician. I studied Architecture at QIT and practised in Australia and overseas. I now care for my elderly mum, in between raising a family and my volunteering commitments: P&C President, teaching guitar at school on Fridays, school tuckshop, Remnant Vegetation Tuesday mornings, LandCare Secretary for the past 10 years, Village Festival Recycling & Rubbish co-ordinator and Coowonga Folk Club musical event co-ordinator. I’m also a recycling nut and an active member of permaculture. I work with youth through Green Corps. My long time addiction to removing environmental weeds has lead to a thriving business as an Environmental Management contractor. Happily, I became a Greens candidate through peer pressure and I enjoy a strong, active and loving support from the people who forced me to do it- the committee. I commute by bike, don’t use air conditioning, plant enough trees in a year to be carbon neutral and take time to enjoy the simple things. We have a unique lifestyle here in Keppel. Managing growth and development is a major issue. We cannot stand by and watch our forests and creeks be consumed by water and energy guzzling and socially alienating suburban sprawl. The Fitzroy River must not become another Murray-Darling through pollution and over allocation. This is an exciting and vital time to be Green: We must offer positive and innovative strategies and solutions to safeguard our planet against the ravages of greed and mindless consumerism and we gotta stand up for a more open and equitable society.
